Proform Elliptical Reviews

Are They Right For You?

Looking for a crosstrainer for under $1000? You've probably considered a Proform elliptical trainer.

Proform is one of the most popular names in the fitness equipment industry.

They are owned by ICON Health and Fitness - one of the largest manufacturers in the business.

(ICON also owns names like Weslo, Image, Freemotion and Reebok).

The advantage to a large company like ICON is that they have the resources and engineers to build a better machine for less. So you get more for your money.

This is actually the best overall advantage to Proform crosstrainers - they come in at really cheap prices - without necessarily being cheap ellipticals. Most of their new models start from $599 and up.

And you still get some incredibly popular buyer features with them like incline, longer stride lengths, adjustable strides and iFit LIVE.

For example, many of these trainers have incline options - either manual or power. Incline changes the slope of your ellitpical pathway and works different sets of lower body muscles.

Up until a few years ago, incline was almost impossible to find in a home elliptical - you had to spend $3000+ on a Precor to get it. You'll get either a manual (where you adjust the ramp yourself) or a power (you can change settings with a button) incline on these trainers.

Many Proform elliptical trainers also come with adjustable strides. Stride is the furthest length between the pedals. Shorter strides can feel uncomfortable and 'bumpy', more like stair climbing than elliptical running.

So most people prefer a longer stride (18 - 22"). Many Proform models - even the $599 ones come with at least an 18" stride.

Another benefit to these elliptical trainers is iFit LIVE. All the newer models now are compatible with iFit LIVE. This is a feature where you can connect your machine to the wireless Internet in your home.

From there you can download new workouts - including ones where celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels coaches you through your workout. You can also track your fitness activity online and map out new workout routes using Googlemaps.

With iFit LIVE you basically never run out of new workout challenges. (However be aware that the iFit LIVE module is extra.)

Which Proform Elliptical is best for you?

This really depends on your budget and personal preferences. For the most part these are starter ellipticals which would suit light to medium activity levels.
